![]() Palmer is good in the lead role and I thought she carried the film nicely. The film also benefits from some strong performances. This isn't your typical haunted house film, which is a good thing and the set-up actually delivers, although I will say the ending is somewhat lame. I'd also argue that Sandberg does a good job building up the characters as well as the story as to what the figure is and why it is haunting the family. This little game is perfectly milked and the black figure is quite good. For starters, the director does a nice job building up the suspense during the scenes where the lights go off, on and then back off again. I was curious to see how this simple idea would be expanded into a feature length and for the most part I thought the writer-director did a good job with it. ![]() ![]() You turn the light off and this figure appears. That short film clocked in at just under three-minutes and was basically the set-up seen at the start of this film. LIGHTS OUT is the feature length version of David F. It turns out something she saw as a child is now haunting him and a mysterious figure that can only be seen when the lights are off is connected in some way to their mother (Maria Bello). ![]() Lights Out (2016) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) ran away from her home years earlier but she's called back when her younger brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) is having trouble sleeping.
